As an undergraduate, Farah worked at the Mission Hill Summer Urban Program. After graduation, she worked with street children in Kenya before joining the Boston Globe as a reporter covering topics ranging from the war in Afghanistan to the legacy of busing in Boston. She won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 2016.
