Sophia Weng

Hi everyone! My name is Sophia Weng and I’m concentrating in Social Studies with a secondary in Mathematical Sciences and a language citation in Chinese.

When I first came to Harvard, I intended to study Government and Statistics, but, as I took classes in History, Anthropology, and Economics, I realized that it was impossible to understand a social issue through a single disciplinary lens. Social Studies was the concentration that agreed. At first, I was concerned that I would not be able to embrace my quantitative interests as a Social Studies concentrator. The concentration is so flexible, however, as long as you have interdisciplinary interests, Social Studies can be whatever you make of it.

Social Studies 10 was been my favorite class at Harvard with insightful, enlightening discussions every week, and I’ve grown so much intellectually because of it. In Social Studies, I learn as much from my classmates as I do from any lecture. I’ve learned how to view the world through dozens of different lenses and to critically examine how I think about society and my place in it. Concentrating in Social Studies was one of the best decisions I’ve made during my time at Harvard!

If you have any questions, please reach out to me. I would love to be a resource for you as you explore your interests and options!
