Xinyu is a Lecturer on Social Studies. He is an anthropologist of urban space, sexuality and migration in Singapore and transnational Asia. His book project, Possessions of Citizenship: State-Constructed Housing and Neoliberal Frictions in Singapore, examines how state-constructed housing projects shape norms and popular understandings of citizenship in Singapore. In particular, the book interrogates how these housing projects are sites of racialization and sexual discipline, and how queer and migrant communities stake claims to belonging in the built environment.
Xinyu received his doctorate from Cornell University, and a master's from University College London.
