AI Policy

Social Studies forbids the use of any generative or agentive artificial intelligence (AI) tools at all stages of the writing process, including preliminary ones. Violations of this policy will be considered academic misconduct. In some circumstances, however, students may be permitted to employ AI to aid with data collection or quantitative data analysis. Before using any forms of AI, those students must secure initial approval from their supervisor and then petition the Social Studies Board of Instruction for final approval by emailing Chris Rominger, DUS, with their thesis supervisor copied, explaining their proposed use of AI and the intellectual rationale for it.

Joint concentrators: Social Studies is always the primary concentration, so this policy overrides any other allied concentration’s policy.
